Hypertension in special conditions and comorbidities: new insights in the therapeutic approach
Hypertension is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease and death worldwide. There is also clear evidence that lowering blood pressure in hypertension reduces the associated morbidity and mortality. However, the management of hypertensive patients is frequently more complex than simply using antihypertensive drugs at appropriate doses. In fact, hypertension is often associated with other metabolic risk factors such as dyslipidemia and glucose intolerance or overt diabetes mellitus. Hypertension is also common in patients with other diseases, such as cancer, in which an elevated blood pressure is found in about one third of patients. In addition, it is well known that hypertension induces structural and/or functional changes in major organs, i.e. heart, kidney, brain, retina and arterial vasculature, which may lead to cardio-cerebrovascular and renal diseases and produce a complex clinical picture that deserves specific management, including the use of appropriate combinations of antihypertensive and cardioprotective drugs.
Therefore, the ESH, which is preparing the updated 2023 version of Guidelines for the management of hypertension, will organize two webinars on ‘Hypertension in special conditions and comorbidities: new insight in the therapeutic approach’, focusing on the following main topics:
- Choice of drugs and targets of treatment of hypertensive patients with hypercholesterolemia, diabetes and chronic kidney disease
- Usefulness of blood pressure control in the prevention and management of cognitive dysfunction. Blood pressure threshold and target for the management of hypertensive patients with stroke.
- Hypertension and cancer therapy
- Updated management of hypertensive patients with cardiac complications such as coronary artery disease, heart failure and arrhythmias
The webinars will be made possible with an unconditioned support by Menarini Group and the technical organization of AIM Group International.
Stay connected, enjoy the webinars and make the most of it!
